Yellowstone via Chicago

Okay, the first hitch in the Honeymoon travel plan, our flight from Buffalo was delayed due to stormy weather in Chicago so we missed our connecting flight from Chicago to Jackson Hole, the airport that would be the start of our Yellowstone adventure. Our suitcase ‘Bob’ did make the connection and arrived 12 hours before us.

After an awful night’s stay and even worse breakfast in the second cheapest and nearest Best Western Hotel to O’Hare airport, we were luckily and thankfully successful in getting standby seats on the first plane out at 7.30am the next morning.

This earlier flight meant we were able to catch a wonderful daytime landing at Jackson, arriving at the smallest yet most stylish airport we’ve ever seen, surrounded by mountains.

After a 3.5 hour drive from Wyoming through Idaho and into Montana, in a new Buick hire car, we eventually arrived at ‘Big Sky’ to stay at our second AirBnB, in time to catch a live music festival in town that evening.

Our favourite restaurant in Big Sky, the Hungry Moose, kept us supplied with coffee, beer and picnic snacks for the next three full days exploring Yellowstone Park.

Amazing views of The Tetons as we approach.

The wonderful Jackson Hole airport (we will return in a few days!)

Our very glamorous Park transport.

A nice scenic spot en route (somebody move those poles!)

Big Sky town musical event to welcome us (did they know we were coming?!).
