Yellowstone Planet

We’re calling this post Yellowstone Planet because of the extraordinary other-worldly landscapes we saw during the three amazing days spent at the park.

You can imagine Mike, with his rucksack full of hi-spec camera equipment, captured many impressive shots so, for blog purposes, we’ve chosen a varied selection.

This blog has scenic pics taken at the many tourist pathways signposted around the impressive 3,471 square mile park.

Also see our Yellowstone Wildlife blog for the beasts that crossed our path. Local reports say not as many sightings as usual so sorry, no bears seen (grizzly, black or teddy).

The amazing Sapphire Pool located in Biscuit Basin – one of our first stops on our way to Big Sky.

More from Biscuit Basin, the colours are created by the different bacteria that exist at different temperatures.

Firehole Canyon Drive is a 2-mile, one-way road off the Grand Loop south of Madison. It has one of the few places in the park where swimming is permitted. Kate did dip her toes in.

Sheepeater Cliff, named for the Shoshone Indians who lived in the region and apparently ate mostly Big Horn Sheep.

Isa lake on the “Continental Divide” and near the road connecting Old Faithful and West Thumb geysers basins. It’s full of Lily pads!

Here is Kate’s little joke related to the previous photo.. LOL

Old Faithful was doing it about every hour!

The amazing view of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone from Artists Point.

One of the many examples of “gnarly wood” encountered, and much admired by Kate.
