Dam Hot

Before leaving for a visit to Hoover Dam, Kate enjoyed a swim in the hotel pool. 9am, it’s already sunny and 104 degrees!

Breakfast: egg and bacon bagels followed by gooey warm cinnamon bites with icing drizzle. How naughty.

We notice free soft drinks and sweets are available for guests and gamblers (who are already at the tables at 10am) guess the Hotel figure they’re already spending enough on the machines?

Hoover Dam was a short drive away, we parked up on the Arizona side (because it’s free there and I’m cheap). It was exceptionally hot, did we mention that already? The temperature never dropped below 104 in the shade, and here we are in full midday sun. We took the shadiest paths we could find and lots of water, and enjoyed our walk across this marvel of engineering.

We then travelled on Route 66 to Williams for our overnight stop. We liked Williams, plenty of places to buy a cowboy hat or whip… We had a tasty meal that evening with good local craft beer.

Grand Canyon tomorrow!

Keeping cool!

Williams, a ‘Western’ town on Route 66!
