We left the hustle and bustle of San Fran to spend a few relaxing days at Carmel by the Sea, where Clint Eastwood was mayor and famous resident.

Travelling in our virtually new Nissan Rogue SUV for the next 16 days we were soon on our way South, and we now know the way to San Jose! Then off the 101 interstate through Santa Cruz taking the coast road, stopping on the way at Moss Landing, where we found a group of basking Seals, water fowl and sand dunes, then through Monterey Bay and into Carmel, a very pretty (and pretty expensive!) coastal town.

We stayed for three nights at Hofsas House Hotel, with swimming pool, sauna and pastries for breakfast (and a few unwelcome guests who wanted to share them).
